Personal Mission Statement// POSITIVE UPDATE

If you've been reading my blog religiously, many of you will know that at the beginning of the year I made some personal mission statements as to some of the stuff I wanted to accomplish by the end of 2015. It's only mid-March now and I feel I have achieved a hell of a lot, so I felt I should share this with you.

Here are some of my past missions that I have accomplished:

1. Gaining control over emotions

I'm doing quite well at not having angry outbursts or getting easily upset. I used to worry about little things that were absolutely trivial in the grand scheme of things, but now I only worry if I'm in danger or whatever. I used to have anxiety attacks when I was in a group of more than six people be it socially, in a class activity or whatever. Now, I'm absolutely fine and love chatting and conversing with a wide variety of people!

2. Feel confident about my appearance

This can come with age and at the moment I really couldn't care less about what people think of me or the way I look. Since I got my hair cut I've actually looked in the mirror and admired myself (there's a first time for everything!). I also realise there's people in a lot worse situations than myself who are enjoying their life regardless of what people think of their appearance. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so the people who really know me know that I am beautiful on the inside and marginally good looking on the outside!

Only two of these missions have been fully completed but it's only been two and a half months since the start of the year, so that's like a mission per month. As well as these missions, I've completed a lot of other tasks which took a lot of strength and courage...

1. I completed my 'Working at Heights' training!

As many of you know, I am now officially a ride host at Alton Towers. I am working on Oblivion at the moment which is the world's first roller coaster with a vertical drop! As a ride host on this ride we have to complete special training which enables us to work at heights in case of situations where we may have to evacuate the guests from the ride, confiscate mobile phones from guests and start the ride. If you have been on this ride you may have noticed the steps going up along either side of the lift/track, where you go up to the drop, and they're scary! As well as the height when you're at the top looking over the rest of the park. We have harnesses though so we're vary safe, it's just nerve racking especially for me as I've always had a fear of heights. Completing the training today was a very big achievment for me and my colleagues and managers were so supportive! I'm sure my anxiety is going now if I can complete such a big ask and mingle with large groups of strangers.

2. I got a job!

After four years of what seemed like endless searching, I managed to bag myself a job. Not just at a local shop but the Britain's favorite theme park, Alton Towers. For my job role I think there were a few hundred applicants so it's a big achievement to have been chosen for this role out of all those people. Also, not until today did I realise that the man who interviewed me was my area manager!

3. I've learnt how to say 'no'

I used to feel as though I had to say 'yes' all the time because I felt like I constantly owed people things. But the truth is, unless someone saves you from lightening or did you a nice favor, you owe no one nothing. If you feel uneasy about something or just don't feel like you want to/can't do it, just say no! Follow your instinct because it's probably right, and you're not hurting anyone.

I think, over the past few months, I've learnt a lot about myself and the coping mechanisms that suit me. But, just because I've achieved a few goals it doesn't mean I should stop making them. Because there's always something out there that you are capable of learning and succeeding in. It may take time and patience but once you've achieved it you will be so proud of yourself and you can go on to the next level and continue to succeed.  The only way really is up! I've even set myself a few more goals to complete for this year...

1. Gain more confidence when working at heights

This one speaks for itself. I want to be like my Oblivion chummies and be able to zoom up and down those steps, as well as being confident with using the harnesses and all the other stuff that will help me get up.

2. Stay happy and positive

When you smile, the whole world smiles with you!

I hope you guys have enjoyed this post and that it's inspired you to set yourself some goals and aspirations for the future. Setting yourself goals like this will keep you motivated and bring out a whole new level of confidence inside you!
