March Favourites and Updates | Lifestyle

Hello everybody!

It has been a little while since I last posted on here because of various things. If you follow me on Twitter then you will probably know that I've been trying to spend more time with my family, friends and Tom and less time on social media. Don't get me wrong, blogging is and always will be one of my all-time favourite things to do. But I think it's better for me, as a person, to get away from it for a little while and catch up with my life outside the internet.
I'm aware I was supposed to have posted this quite a while back now (10 days to be exact...oops!), but I will try my best to jog my memory and feed back to you what my best moments of March 2016 were. Then, I will update you with some rather exciting news that is more fresh in my old noggin', so I can write a bit more and give the details to fill out the post and, well...update you a bit!

Forest Break at Sherwood Pines

If you've been keeping up to date with my blog, you may have seen my post about a short, weekend break I took a couple of weeks ago with my boyfriend and some of his family. And it was magical! I was so lucky to be given the opportunity to get away, de-stress and even conquer one of my biggest fears...

Body Positivity

Since Christmas I have put on quite a few pounds. For many people, this isn't a problem, nor is it something to be ashamed about. However, for me it's quite hard because I do have a body that I would be more comfortable in achieving my aspiration, rather than wallowing in self pity and continuing with an unhealthy lifestyle. So, I've been using my gym membership to it's full potential in the past few weeks and have also been paying attention to my physical appearance a bit more e.g. moisturising more, growing nails. This is becoming quite a big milestone for me, because as a recently recovered depression sufferer, I used to lack the discipline of getting myself clean and presentable. It really wasn't a concern of mine. Fingers crossed this Summer I will look like a super model (I highly doubt it, but I can keep wishing)!

The A Word

A new BBC drama that I have been enjoying thoroughly, considering it is so close to my heart. The series tells the story of a dysfunctional extended family living in the Lake District, and how they cope with their newly diagnosed, autistic five-year-old son, Joe.
Not only does this interest me because I am on the autistic spectrum myself, but also because I am training to be a teacher. This program is, so far, opening my eyes as to how parents can face challenges having children with learning difficulties, as well as how other external professionals find autistic traits and mechanisms to accommodate these. It really is an interesting, gripping watch that I recommend to you all. I'm sure you will have seen nothing like it before!

Updates

Now for the more exciting news...

Myself and Tom are now ENGAGED! And we couldn't be any happier.

We both knew that we wanted to make this commitment for quite some time now. Tom was anticipating asking my parents for their blessing for a good week or so, and after a girly shopping day with my mother and hundreds of hints later, I sent him a text and told him to ask either the next day or later that evening. And so he did.
In all honesty, although my parents have always loved Tom dearly, I was so surprised that they gave Tom their blessing. This is purely because I assumed there was a bad stereotype attached to those who get engaged at a young age. But, on the other hand many members of my family got engaged at around my age. All our families are thrilled and I couldn't have asked for better support. Tom's two best men/mates were so encouraging and got him through it really well, too.

And so it happened, an afternoon walk and a 'badly wrapped, rejected Sainsbury's Kinder egg with a ring inside the pod. There we were, standing in the middle of a field thrilled to pieces.

I think I've only had one cynical comment, from someone I can't say I'm affiliated with, nor do I care about them.

Although we're engaged now, we won't be getting married for around five years. The reason being that we both need to finish university and get straight into our careers. The beauty of it is, we are both going into teaching so we can spend the first (or in Tom's case, second) year of our careers planning the big day ready for the Summer. I will admit though, we do have part of our guest list prepared, and a venue in mind. Hey, it's always best to be ready and have a perfect day!
When Tom's dad is back in the country, we will be having an engagement party with our nearest and dearest. I've already started designing snazzy invites and decorations with the help of Pinterest. One of my closest friends, Phoebe, and I have set up two boards that we keep adding to for bits of inspiration for both the engagement party and the big day. We literally cannot contain our excitement.

The gorgeous addition to my left hand..

I hope you've all had a wonderful Easter break. For those of you going back to university/school/college soon, good luck! And remember, we've only got one term/semester left...

Grace x
