American Horror Story// Season 1 Review

'The Harmons face many conflicts going on in their new home; the primary one stemming from Ben Harmon's adultery, and the subsequent fallout with his wife, Vivien, and daughter, Violet. Other conflicts include the intrusive behavior of the neighbors, Constance and Adelaide, as well as intrusions from one of Dr. Harmon's patients, Tate. A parade of mysterious visitors to their haunted home, including the scarred Larry Harvey make the first year of the Harmons in Los Angeles very dangerous. The house seems to have a vivid history, ranging from brutal murders to demonic manifestations, and it seems to have its own agenda.'

American Horror Story Season 1: Murder House
Review

This American programme has been pretty much everywhere since 2011. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter...literally everywhere. But it wasn't until just a couple of weeks ago that I gave in to my temptation and began to watch it on Netflix. After finally completing the first season, it has now become one of my favourite TV programmes of all time...

The first season opens with a family of three, who have just moved States after Ben/Doctor Harman (the father and husband) was caught having an affair with one of his psychology students. The choice of moving homes was instigated by Ben in hope that he could re-build and salvage his marriage with Vivien. When looking around the new house, they are told by the estate agent that there had been numerous tragedies in the house. Violet, Ben and Vivien's grunge and depressed daughter, is instantly drawn to the vintage charm and possible hauntings so immediately speaks for her parents and says she would like to reside there.
Throughout this series, there are loads of creepy on-goings. The storyline is alluring and intense, with many spooks along the way. However, I didn't find it particularly horrifying which disappointed me quite a bit. Considering the name is 'American HORROR Story', I was anticipating something a tad bit more creepy.
However, I'm not going to say there weren't moments where I was hiding my face from the screen for when I just couldn't look.
Also, I'm not a fan of the consistent rape themes that keep cropping up. Obviously it's a horror series so there are going to be moments made to make the audience feel uncomfortable and scared, but it's just too much in this series. Replace it with more blood and guts!

I am now watching the second series which goes under the name of 'Asylum'. I am absolutely loving it at the moment. Many people prefer the first season but I feel that the second series lives up the genre of 'horror' more. But...more on that next time
