15 Things I am grateful for
I was selected by my lovely friend, Keisha, to do this post and write about fifteen things I am grateful for in my life, no matter how big or small. It's going to be hard for me to tag people as many people I know do not blog at all, but I will tag people regardless because it's a great thing to do no matter what platform you choose whether it be Facebook, YouTube, Tumblr etc. It's also a great coping mechanism for if you are ever feeling down, to just make a gratitude list.
1. My Family
I have quite a small, closely-knit family. I love every single member of it, even if some of them can get really annoying at times. My mum and dad have raised both my brother and myself fantastically, giving us every opportunity possible. Through my childhood, I attended horse riding, dance lessons, piano lessons, Girl Guiding and had a good education.
With circumstances as they are regarding my Auntie, we've all become a lot closer and been their for each other at times of need. I've also become a lot closer to my godfather too, as we only really saw each other once a year after a became a teenager, but now we text and arrange to meet up frequently. I am grateful for this.
2. My Boyfriend
I know it's really recent but I'm so happy with Tom. It's so lovely to have someone I find interesting, and who takes interest in me too. He is so gorgeous and lovely, gentle and bloody hilarious! We understand each other very well too, spend lots of time together and really care for one another. I really do love him to pieces, it's so nice to be this happy and also make someone mutually happy. I am grateful for that.
3. My friends
I recently moved college campuses so I could do a course relevant to photography, which was really hard to do because I'd just rekindled all my friendships after getting out of a nasty relationship. But, I have managed to keep in contact and am still very close with all of them. I love spending time with them and always have a giggle and good time when we meet up. Even the friends I don't go to college with, I love spending time with y'all too!
4. Music
Music has always been really important to me and is always a good outlet for me when I feel really upset. Bands like Asking Alexandria, who I was fortunate enough to see just the other week, Pierce the Veil, Sleeping with Sirens and System of a Down put me in a really good place no matter what mood I am in.
5. Privileges
These are something that are taken for granted by many people all over the world. I am grateful for having a nice house, a dog (who is my baby), food and drink, a great counselling service and education. I've recently become more grateful for education considering their are girls and boys in third world countries who would love to go to school, even just to learn basic skills, yet so many people I know take it for granted.
6. College
I took up a new course during September, a B-tech and Extended Diploma in Photography. This relates back to privileges and taking education for granted. Unfortunately, my AS levels completely flopped and because of the newly introduced laws and government funding, I was not allowed to resit them. But, I found the course I am currently taking at the same college. I was extremely sceptical about it but in all honesty I have loved every moment of it and I have only been there for two months. It always gives me something to do to take my mind off things, my lecturers are great and give me loads of support with the issues I am currently facing. No matter how boring the general topic of our assignment is, my lecturers always manage to make it really interesting and fun. I am grateful for this.
7. Students Union
At the end of the academic year that has just past, I was voted by Derby College students to become the RAG (raising and giving) co-ordinator for the Derby College Students Union which was an extremely big achievement for me. It's a really stressful job but I love it. Again, it gives me something to channel my thoughts into and focus on. By nature, I love to organise and arrange things no matter how big or small they are so this role has proved suitable for me. I am extremely grateful to everyone who voted for me.
8. Photography and Art
Photography and art is something I've really channelled myself into. I've always loved to draw since a young age even though I'm sometimes completely useless at it. I didn't really get into photography until year 11, when I did a bit using my mums DSLR for the introduction of my exam unit in my art GCSE. My mum was really impressed with what I did so my parents invested in a Nikon DSLR for me. I'm grateful for this hobby and for my parents, who have invested their time and support to encourage me to pursue it all as a career.
9. Obstacles
People who I am close to know I have had a really crappy year. In some ways I hate it all, but in other ways I am grateful for some of it. I have had amazing support from my family, friends and boyfriend. But if none of this stuff had happened, I wouldn't be the person I am today. These obstacles have turned me from a fragile little girl into a young woman who takes no shit from anybody. I am grateful for that.
10. Animals
Like many of my friends, I am a massive animal lover. I have my own dog, Daisy, who I love to absolute pieces. She can read me like a book which is really a weird thing to say, but she knows when I'm upset, she's always up for a cuddle and is extremely loyal. I couldn't imagine my life without her now. I'm also in love with my boyfriend's cats (Alfie is my favourite). Both are English Long Hairs, but they look like Persians which is really misleading. I don't think Guss Guss likes me though, I give him too many cuddles and he always pushes me away..le cry.
11. Make-Up
I know how vain this may make me sound but I've become so grateful for this recently. Just before summer I was banned from wearing this and revealing clothes. I dress modestly anyway unless it's like roasting hot outside, then I have to put on shorts because I don't want to pass out from heat stroke. Back to make up though, I feel so confident when I wear it. I've never been blessed with natural beauty and I love to experiment with eye make up. I'm also considering a qualification in theatrical makeup to assist my photography and create more dramatic images.
12. Literature
Reading is another hobby of mine and nice to do when I'm not getting enough inspiration for my art. Again, this is something I've loved doing since a young age due to my imagination. I'm grateful to all the authors who have produced amazing stories for me to read throughout my life.
13. Technology and Internet
If I didn't have access to the internet, a phone or anything digital to listen to music off I would be pretty screwed. Considering the internet is crucial for my coursework research and keeping in touch with my friends from my old school and the ones who are now at uni, without the internet my social life would be a tragedy. My phone is a central importance to me also, not just for putting music on it or sending texts, but for emergencies. I am grateful for this privilege.
14. My blog
This is like a public diary for me where I can share aspects of my life without going into too much detail. I don't always like to use it to give myself therapy, I also like to write about social issues and stuff in the news, research into stuff etc. I'd like to go into photojournalism if possible when I'm older as well as doing photo shoots for events like weddings and parties. I'm grateful for the people that encouraged me to get a blog.
15. Life
Life as a whole is pretty good at the moment to say the least. There's ups and downs but I am a human being, everyone has those feelings. I'm grateful for everyone and everything I have in my life. Thanks guys! Love you all xo
I nominate Tom, Rachel, Xaffie, Chloe, Leon, Katie, Dan and Mum to do this. Again, you don't have to have a blog to do this. You can do it on any form of social media you like. Facebook, YouTube, Tumblr or this.
Don't forget, there's always something to be grateful about xo
