The 'Orange is the New Black' Tag
Hello!
So it's been a while since I did a tag post, and I really miss doing them. I feel that they give you all a bit of a more personal insight to my quirks and personality, even if it is a bit pointless!
With the big trailer release for the new up-coming season of Orange is the New Black, a comedy-drama set in a women's prison based around the life of Piper Chapman and a few other inmates (in case you've been living in a desolate cave billions of galaxies away since 2013), I have been catching up like mad on Netflix! Last Summer I went on a Netflix binge and fell in love with the series and it's storyline. For some reason, I sort of dropped it and have lacked commitment with a few other series since. But now it's time to catch up and regain all the knowledge about the characters, their lives and events from the previous three seasons.
And because of this rekindled love and obsession for the series, I thought I would partake in the little Orange is the New Black tag on my lonesome because I'm not sure if any of my blogging buddies follow the series, and I've also had bloggers block for a while now so I thought this would get some more creative juices flowing!
1. Who is your favourite character and why?
I cannot decide between Sophia and Morello. Sophia, I feel, is a very strong woman and addresses a lot of trans issues really eloquently through her own experiences. I like how she doesn't tolerate any bullying from the correctional officers or other inmates towards her situation, and nips things in the bud so she doesn't face further injustice. For example, the issues she faced when the prison failed to supply her with the medication she needed to remain as a woman. I also really enjoyed watching her back story.
Morello is really quaint and I can sort of see myself in her and the way she expresses herself (I'm not a compulsive liar though, don't worry!). She's very vulnerable and lets all her emotions build up and build up, and then she explodes and tries to hide the fact that she has an issue. Just like me. She's also very funny and naive, and comes out with some great one liners! I think she's absolutely beautiful too, in a really original way. Style goals!
2. Who is your least favourite character and why?
Polly and Kentucky.
I find Kentucky very intimidating and estranged. Although I do sympathise with her in a really weird way. Sometimes I find her funny, other times she's just damn scary!
Polly, because she's very self-centred and a back-stabbing bitch. Who does that to their best friend?
3. Which season is your favourite and why?
Season one probably. Because it just introduced everything really well and put everything into perspective. Season two is also pretty good because the finale is so tense. Well, everything is really tense and dramatic in season two!
4. Which is a better couple: Piper and Larry, or Piper and Alex?
Personally, I thought Piper and Larry were really cute together. But then Larry started being really blunt and disinterested. And he also slept with Piper's best friend. I never liked Alex as a character, because she's a bit too dark and...odd. I don't know, I can't really describe it. Then again, she also messed up Piper's life. So I feel Piper is better off without either of them.
5. How do you feel about V, and did you like her death?
Bit of a morbid question! I thought she was a sneaky bully and really didn't like her, but she added a bit of tension to the show which is what I did like. In terms of her death, I thought it was a good way to end the episode/season (can't remember whether it was a finale or not, but I think it was!) but it wasn't very realistic.
6. Do you think Piper was right to do what she did to Stella in season 3?
Not really, no. Although thieving is bad, I still feel like it wasn't Pipers place to impact the rest of someone else's life so heavily. Unlike Stella, Piper was very pampered and comfortable. She didn't really need the business. Stella had practically nothing outside of prison, and all of her family were back in Australia. But, it made the show very interesting for me as I was starting to get a bit bored, so I can't complain!
7. Are you looking forward to season 4?
Yes! I have so many questions I need answering. What happens to Daya and Bennett's baby? What's with all of Piper's tension and paranoia? And the trailer looks 10x darker than any other I've seen before. I really can't wait!
8. If you were to be in the show, which character would you be?
Yoga Jones because she just seems so chilled and avoids all the drama. Although I find myself in a lot of difficult situations in my life, I'd like to think I could avoid that if I were to ever go into prison, just like she does!
9. Do you prefer Piper as being weak (season one), her 'finished' stage (season two) or her powerful stage (season three)?
I really sympathise with her in season one, in regards to her situation, and enjoyed watching her try to adapt to a completely different lifestyle. Season two was good, because she was over stuff and just moving on with her own life, and I enjoyed watching her trying to catch the prison warden out so all inmates could have a bit more justice. I find her actually quite scary in season three, and although I didn't like seeing her as that character, it was enjoyable and tense to watch. So I will say season three, even though I didn't really watch it all.
10. If you were at Lichfield Prison, who would you hang around with?
Definitely Red's group. They're very neutral and welcoming in their own weird way. They also seem to be able to help each other a lot more than other groups and are a stronger unit of friends than the other groups.
11. What do you think you'd be in prison for?
Honestly, no idea. Maybe for being a notorious pug stealer.
12. What are your opinions on Daya's and Bennett's situation?
I think Bennett was a bit of a dick for leaving a vulnerable young girl (Daya) without notice and just driving off, leaving her to carry their baby alone. I understand he was scared and intimidated by her family circumstances, but love is supposed to be unconditional. Having said that, I thought they were a really good couple and it was a nice sort of twist in the story.
13. What do you think happened to Bennett?
Honestly, although it obviously upset him, I think he's gone off to start a new life. I didn't really watch enough of the series to uncover any possible clues regarding whether something bad has happened to him. But that's just what I think.
14. Thoughts on Red flirting with Healy to get the kitchen back?
Hey, it's prison! You've got to do what you've got to do to make your way.
**Note: Had to miss a few questions because I didn't really know the characters mentioned quite as well. As I said, I lost my commitment to the show. Sorry!**
15. Would you fake being Jewish to get the Kosher meals, like Taystee did?
Hmmm. I don't know. Whilst part of me thinks it's disrespectful to those who are actually Jewish, I also think if I was going hungry all the time I might just have to. It really depends on the situation but it's obviously that group wanting to have 'the finer things in life'...well, the finest things they can get in a prison!
16. Thoughts on Pussay and Taystee's friendship?
I think they have a really good friendship, but it annoyed me when Pussay was really pushy with Taystee, as she obviously didn't share mutual feelings or want a relationship. So she should have understood that and respected it.
17. If you were in prison what job would you take?
Probably an Alcoholics Anonymous leader because I like listening to other people's problems. Nothing else really appeals to me. And I don't fancy facing the same situation Piper did with the screwdriver in electrical workshop!
18. What job do you think Sophia would take if she wasn't a hairdresser?
I don't know, probably a cook or one of the laundry people. She seems to like organisation and being on top of things. So probably the a cook!

I hope you've enjoyed this post. Like I said, I enjoy doing tags because I feel like they're just a way to share a bit of upbeat, detailed facts about me and my interests. Even if they are a little random at times!
If you want to do this tag, go ahead! I'd love to see your answers and be a little nosey on your blog.
