The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 | Review

As promised, I will be reviewing the fourth and final film adaptation of Suzanne Collins's 'The Hunger Games' trilogy. Before I begin, let me assure you I'm not being biased to the author, film makers or actresses because of how amazed I am. I have been a follower of the trilogy, both books and films, from the beginning and I genuinely see no flaws in anything thats been done.

So we were left on a cliffhanger at the end of part one, with a year full of suspense and anticipation to follow. This film was going to be the highlight of 2015 for me in the world of cinema.

The intro was short and snappy. No rubbish and 'starring....', 'with....'. It was straight to where we left off, with Katniss being treated after an incident with Peeta.
From that point, it captivated the audience into the final part of the story. It did not cut out any of the gory details which I was particularly impressed about as it made the devastation all the more powerful.

I found so many parts of it emotional as well. An example of where my I was hit right in the feels would be when Pollux has a mini breakdown upon entering the underground tunnels to the Capitol.
Pollux basically feels emotional towards the situation due to previously being stuck in tunnels for a excruciatingly long period of time 'without even seeing the sun'.
But how tense was the lizard mutt attack? Wow! I was hiding underneath my coat, half of me wanting to look but then the other half saying 'don't look otherwise you will jump and accidentally slap someone in the face!'
I was surprised about the way the producers formed the lizard mutts, as I was just expecting these overgrown lizards. The ones with those tufts around their necks but the ones that were actually featured in the film were extremely scary, causing a tragic death for Finnick.

There was so much attention to detail as well. The way, when Snow assumed Squad 451 had been killed by the pods in the ruins, their deaths were broadcasted like the deaths in the previous Hunger Games.
And Tigris...wow! There was so much attention paid to this character and her costume was very sinister and creepy but so true to the novel.

Please do not get me started about the end. If you have read the book and not yet seen the film, then do not be disappointed because nothing has been cut out. The raw emotion when Katniss reunites with Buttercup and has an emotional breakdown is so upsetting and reminded me how objects and people can remind you of traumatic experiences and loss.
Seeing Katniss and Peeta (spoiler alert) as parents was so lovely and a my eyes did leak a bit as over this scene, the music used was the song that Katniss sang to Rue as she died.
The cinematics were beautiful as well, the way it was filmed, slow motion used effectively and the lighting in certain places such as when Katniss is with her new family in the final scene and when she initially returns home. But I'm a bit of a photography/filming nerd and really admire stuff like that and overthink it then get emotional about the beauty of it. Ok I will shut up now...

Everything was almost word for word to the novel and acted out so beautifully. I'm so sad to see it all end, but so happy for how wonderful the films represented the books through the production and acting. No one could have directed it better than Francis Lawrence, and no one could have topped such a...top notch cast!
Already, Lionsgate (the producing company) have announced the possibilities of a prequel which I am thrilled about, as I have always said how good it would be to make two films about the first civil war of Panem and the first Hunger Games. As the producers have said 'there have been some cool arenas in past Hunger Games'

And if you haven't already....go see it!

Grace x
